There have been several betting scandals in the world of tennis in last year. And it seems like that even the legendary Wimbledong tennis tournament can’t go without suspicious betting activity.
In the normal first round matches around $160,000 are wagered at BetFair online betting. However, in the game between American Wayne Odesnik and Austrian Jurgen Meltzer there was a turnover of almost $1million. This obviously raised some eyebrows and the match was reported to the officials who investigate possible fixed matches.
According to BetFair however there was nothing unusual and the unusually big turnover was simply caused by something that the commentator said. The commenter said during the match that Odensik had a thigh injury and it would obviously decrease his odds of winning significantly.
And indeed Odensik ended up losing the match, but according to him he didn’t have an actual injury at any point of the match. He had simply called up his trainer after he had felt something tiny in his hamstring. He also went to add that “I have no injury – I’m perfectly fine”T
